Summer Reading Challenge Information

Children and families can access the summer reading challenge using the online version where individual log ins can be created. This is accessed at the same website: WWW.SILLYSQUAD.ORG.UK. I realise that not all children can readily access online materials but hope that you will be able to find another way to engage them, perhaps using the downloadable materials that are linked here again:
Children taking part in the Challenge online will unlock activities and virtual reward badges as they work towards completing their personal reading goal. Children can sign up for a website profile which will allow them to rate and review their Challenge reads, collect rewards and access all areas of the site. The website will also host downloadable activity sheets, creative challenges, polls, videos and competitions to enjoy over the summer, all inspired by the Silly Squad and their favourite books.

Summer Reading Challenge

The Summer Reading Challenge launches in Hampshire and there are more ways than ever for children to take part in 2020.

The annual Summer Reading Challenge launched in Hampshire’s libraries today (Wednesday 1 July) and this year there are move ways than ever for children to take part this year!

The challenge supports the literacy of children aged 4-11 by encouraging children to read (at least) six books over the summer holidays. Every participating child who signs up online at will receive a medal and a certificate we hope to distribute these rewards through schools in the autumn.

There are more ways than ever for children to take part this year:

•           Sign-up online and read the books they have at home, or borrow eBooks and eAudio books from our digital collection – we have lots of choice of kids – look for our ‘Summer Reading Challenge’ bookshelf

•           Sign-up online and use our free Ready Reads, We Select You Collect service to get actual books from the library - for more information check out this page on our website:

•  From Monday 6 July make a short visit to your local library, children who can’t sign-up online can get help to sign-up for the Summer Reading Challenge and family groups can visit together to browse and borrow books. For more information on making short visits to the library please visit our website

Empthy Day- We did lots of work around “Elmer’s Birthday", looking at events through Elmer’s eyes, and writing diary entries as if we were Elmer.

VE Celebrations

Friday 8th May 2020 celebrates the 75th Anniversary of victory in Europe. There is a whole day of events planned for Friday 8th:

The Royal British Legion is calling on people across the UK to join in a moment of reflection and Remembrance at 11am and pause for a Two Minute Silence

There is also a ‘Nation’s Toast to the Heroes of WW2’ at 3pm on the 8th May, we would invite you to join us from the safety of your own home by standing up and raising a glass of refreshment and undertaking the following ‘Toast’ – “To those who gave so much, we thank you,”  This is a unique opportunity to pay tribute to the many millions at home and abroad that gave so much to ensure we all enjoy and share the freedom we have today.

We would also like to draw your attention to the many FREE resources that you can share with your children:

We would love to see how you are celebrating at home so please send pictures to: with the subject line: VE Celebrations
