Year 5

Year 5 at Endeavour Primary is an exciting year of learning, growth and new responsibilities. In this stage, children build on the skills they developed in Year 4 while deepening their understanding across the curriculum. Our focus is on helping pupils become confident, independent learners who know how to ask questions, try new strategies and reflect on their progress.

In English, pupils strengthen reading comprehension and develop writing with clearer structure, richer vocabulary and increasing accuracy in spelling, punctuation and grammar. In maths, they continue to consolidate key concepts and apply them to solve problems, using reasoning skills to explain their thinking. Lessons also support wider learning through science, history, geography, computing, art, music and physical education, with opportunities to practise skills through practical activities and well-planned challenges.

We value strong partnerships with families and aim to keep you informed about what your child is learning and how you can support at home. Regular reading, practising key maths facts and discussing learning in everyday situations can make a real difference. Week Commencing 5th October

This week in Maths, Year 5 have been learning a range of strategies to help check the accuracy of their addition and subtraction calculations. The children have used their knowledge of rounding to estimate answers and decide whether their calculations are reasonable. They have also used inverse operations to check answers and solve problems involving missing numbers.

In Art, the children enjoyed designing and creating their own Viking brooches from clay. They decorated them with intricate Viking knot patterns and even included secret messages written in Viking runes. We were very impressed with their creativity and attention to detail!
