Year 4 Newsround

In Year 4 we have been completed our project 'Food for thought.' At the end of this project the children have been turned into newsreaders and created their own newsround around a topic that we have covered during our project.

Follow the link below to Youtube where you will find our wonderful news reporters:

We have now finished our project of Romans Rule Britannia. Using the shields that the children made as part of their home learning we practised the Roman army strategy of a testudo. Here are some video examples to show how we got on....

Home Learning:

In addition to the home learning sheets that will be sent home at the beginning of a new project, children are encouraged to read and practise their spellings and timetables at home.

Please read with your child as often as possible at home and record in their home school book which is checked daily. Each class has their own reading race where for every day a child reads at home they move their name up the chart. When a child has read 4 times or more over the week they are entered into a raffle to win a prize at the end of each half term. All children are encouraged to take part in our school wide reading challenge, which can be completed over the whole school year and can be found on the website.

Children will receive a weekly list of spellings to learn at home. These will be sent home every Friday, commencing Friday 11th September, and then checked in school the following Friday.

Kirk Campus - Monday and Friday  King Campus - Thursday afternoon

We will be continuing with the daily run, so please ensure that your child has suitable footwear to participate every day. PE kits will be sent home on a Friday to be washed and returned on Monday.

Forest School:

King and Kirk Campus - Tuesday morning

Please can children come into school  wearing their Forest School clothes and their school uniform in a named bag.

Please do speak to us if you have any queries or concerns. It can be a little tricky to speak on the door so it is advisable to write a note in your child’s home school diary or book an appointment with your child's class teacher though the school email address:

Thank you for your  support and we look forward to an exciting year ahead!

The Year 4 Team

Forest School

The children in Anning and Darwin have really enjoyed their first couple of Forest School sessions. Firstly, we checked the Forest School area for any dangers. Once this was established and fixed, the children chose from a variety of activities including the mud kitchen, flower printing and den building. The children were also able to choose their own activity; some children built swings, climbed trees and made their own circus acts using cable drums. Such inventive learning all!
