Year 4

Welcome to Year 4!

Anning, Darwin, JK Rowling and Elton John

Over the last half-term the children have been learning all about the Romans. We have taken a trip back in time to discover what life was like in the Roman Empire. Children have learnt about the failed invasion of Britain in 55BC and the reasons why this invasion was unsuccessful. Armed with this knowledge they have been able to brief Emperor Claudius as he prepares to invade Britain once again. Children have learnt about Boudicca and the uprising she led. Children have listened to Boudicca rallying her tribe ready for battle before learning about the events that unfolded during the ultimate battle at Watling Street Children have followed the recruitment process and trained like a Roman. They have immersed themselves in army life learning and following the rules for marching and defending in battle and recount their feelings and perceptions in recounts and diary entries.

Home Learning:

In addition to the home learning sheets that will be sent home at the beginning of a new project, children are encouraged to read and practise their spellings and timetables at home.

Please read with your child as often as possible at home and record in their home school book which is checked daily. Each class has their own reading race where for every day a child reads at home they move their name up the chart. When a child has read 4 times or more over the week they are entered into a raffle to win a prize at the end of each half term. All children are encouraged to take part in our school wide reading challenge, which can be completed over the whole school year and can be found on the website.

Children will receive a weekly list of spellings to learn at home. These will be sent home every Friday, commencing Friday 11th September, and then checked in school the following Friday.

Kirk Campus - Monday and Wednesday

King Campus - Monday and Tuesday

We will be continuing with the daily run, so please ensure that your child has suitable footwear to participate every day. PE kits will be sent home on a Friday to be washed and returned on Monday.

Please do speak to us if you have any queries or concerns. It can be a little tricky to speak on the door so it is advisable to write a note in your child’s home school diary or book an appointment with your child's class teacher though the school email address:

Thank you for your  support and we look forward to an exciting year ahead!
